This quote reminds me of our look at Genesis 22 in Sunday School this morning. When asked of the passage "What is God teaching me about Jesus" a class member replied - "it is a foreshadowing of what Jesus would do." So we have Issac - the supposed sacrifice - carrying his own wood (as Jesus would carry the cross), Abraham giving us his own son (God the father giving up his own Son) and the son (Issac) willing to give up his life in obedience to his father (Jesus obedient even unto death). These connections are given us in many New Testament passages.
